Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering

Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering is a half-day, regulated food safety qualification, assessed with a multiple choice exam. We can run this course at your premises as a traditional classroom style course, or we now now offer remote training on Zoom, see below for details. The course is suitable for kitchen porters, new food handlers, and people that are handling low risk food or packaged food, or those that are serving food but not directly preparing it.

Level 1 Award in Food Safety for Catering (RQF). Half day course with regulated exam.

This course is suitable for:

Anyone that works in a food business that serves food but doesnt do any preparation, such as waiters, bar staff, and health care workers. Also suitable for kitchen porters.

Duration and assessment:

This food safety course is a half-day course and is assessed by a multiple choice exam with a pass mark of 9/15.

For remote training, this is delivered using blended learning; a precourse workbook is completed before the course. A 2-hour Zoom session is followed by the online exam.

understanding a food handlers’ role in preventing contamination
an understanding of how to keep food safe during storage, preparation and service
understanding the importance of cleaning in food premises
an understanding of a food handlers’ role in maintaining good personal hygiene and preventing food poisoning
understand the legal requirements of a food handler
date coding / stock rotation

Training at your premises or remotely on Zoom

The Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering can be run at your premises, or remotely on Zoom with remote invigilation.

For remote training, a workbook is sent out to each candidate to complete before the course. The food hygiene course is run on Zoom at a time to suit you, with the exam completed online using a remote invigilation app. Results are available immediately, certifitcates are emailed the same day (subject to delays due to invigilation checks).
